The mirror stays on your iPhone.

Effective 15 October 2026

The short version

The live mirror runs on your iPhone: FoldLit never saves, uploads or analyses camera images. FoldLit sends defined usage data to help us understand and improve the app. It does not send your setup names or the colours and brightness you choose. There is no account, advertising or advertising tracking, and you can turn usage sharing off in Settings.

Camera

When you choose “Your face”, FoldLit asks to use the front camera, if you have not already answered, so it can show a live mirror. Images exist only briefly to draw the preview. FoldLit does not take photos, record video, recognise faces or use the microphone. “An object” does not use the camera. If you decline camera access, you can still use the light; change access at any time in iPhone Settings > Apps > FoldLit.

What the app collects

The app sends events about which way you light (your face or an object), the lighting mode, the kinds of controls you adjust, preset and saved-setup actions, mirror zoom and swap actions, camera-permission outcomes, how long lighting sessions last (in broad bands), and Pro purchase and restore outcomes. It also sends app lifecycle events, a broad layout and fold-pose category, limited technical context such as the app and iOS versions and device type, fixed error categories, and crash reports with messages, file paths and other text removed. These are defined event names and categories, not a recording of your screen.

Each installation has a random identifier, shown in FoldLit Settings > Privacy as the “Analytics ID”, so that we can understand a lighting journey and whether people return. Events are therefore linked to that installation, but not to your name, email address, Apple Account, advertising identifier or device vendor identifier, and we do not use them to identify you or track you across other companies’ apps or websites. We use them for our legitimate interests in improving FoldLit and keeping it reliable. We do not sell your personal information or share it for advertising.

PostHog processes these events on our behalf as our service provider, under terms that require it to protect them to the same standard as this policy, and stores them on its servers in the European Union (PostHog Cloud EU, Frankfurt). PostHog staff and some of its subprocessors, including in the United States, may access or process data outside the EU, for example to provide support. PostHog relies on recognised safeguards for those transfers, such as adequacy regulations, the EU–US Data Privacy Framework and its UK extension, or standard contractual clauses. Email us if you would like details.

FoldLit never sends camera images, photos, video or audio, setup names, chosen colours or brightness values, hinge readings, file paths, error text, anything you type, purchase receipts or payment details. The app does not access your location, and location lookup from analytics request IP addresses is disabled. Like other internet requests, an analytics request carries your IP address to the provider; it is not stored as an analytics property.

Your choice

Usage sharing is on by default. Open FoldLit Settings > Privacy and turn off “Share usage analytics” to stop sending it. The choice stays off across relaunches, and queued events and pending crash reports on your phone are removed. This does not remove events already received by the analytics provider. Turning sharing off does not change the light, the mirror or your purchase.

What stays on your phone

Your light settings, mirror zoom and pan settings and saved setups are stored on your phone, with a local recovery copy in case a save fails. FoldLit has no sync service, and it does not upload those settings or names.

Purchases

FoldLit Pro is a one-off in-app purchase. Apple handles payment and restoration through the App Store, and we do not receive your payment details or Apple Account. Analytics records only the purchase or restore outcome and which feature or screen it came from.

How long data is kept

We keep analytics events so that we can compare use over time. Our PostHog plan keeps them for at least seven years, and PostHog may delete them after that. We delete events from your installation sooner if you ask us to. Settings on your phone stay until you change them or delete the app. If you email us, we keep the correspondence for as long as we need it to deal with your request.

Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct or delete personal data, to object to or restrict its use, and to complain to a data-protection authority, such as the UK Information Commissioner’s Office. You can object at any time by turning off usage sharing in Settings. To ask for a copy of your analytics data or for its deletion, email us with the Analytics ID from FoldLit Settings > Privacy; without it we cannot find events from your installation, because there is no account.

Advertising and children

FoldLit has no advertising and does not track people across other companies’ apps or websites. It is a general-purpose lighting tool and is not directed at children.

Changes and contact

We will update this policy if our data practices change and show the new effective date here. FoldLit is made by Tom Murton in the United Kingdom, who is responsible for this data. For privacy questions or requests, emailsupport@weevolve.app. If you contact us, we use the information you choose to send, through our email service provider, to answer your request, for our legitimate interests in providing support.
